Talented author and retired national journalist Gabrielle Davis celebrated National Storytelling Week at Timperley Nursing Home with a recital of her poetry to fellow residents and their families.

Mrs Davis, 85, read from her collection of poems about animals which were inspired by photographs of pets sent to her by readers of a national magazine for which she wrote a column.

The home’s activities coordinator Iwona Pawelczyk, who organised the poetry morning, said: “Gabrielle started as a journalist on local papers, including the Coventry Telegraph, before moving on to national titles, including the magazine Women’s Realm and the Daily Mail.

“She interviewed luminaries from the world of theatre and leading society figures including future queen Camilla Parker-Bowles.

“The poetry morning organised in celebration of National Storytelling Week provided a glimpse into Gabrielle’s illustrious career and her passion for writing. Her journey serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the power of storytelling and the joy of sharing our experiences with others.”

Among her other literary accomplishments, she co-authored a book on Royal mothers.

Before moving to the Manchester area to be close to family, Mrs Davis had lived in Kent and during her time as a Canterbury City Councillor she served for a year as Sheriff of Canterbury.

She has been a lifelong campaigner for pets and wildlife charities and during her time a councillor battled to stop local museum closures.
