Care home offers sweet treat for chocolate connoisseurs at fair

brookehouse chocolate craft fair

Chocolate connoisseurs were in for a sweet treat as an inaugural fair was successfully held in the grounds of a Norfolk care home. A new artisan craft, food and chocolate fair took centre stage in the grounds of Brooke House care home in the village of Brooke on Saturday and organisers were “thrilled” with the response. Estimates of between 700 and 1,000 people turned out for the event, as about 25 stalls attended. And such was the success of the fair, which ran in a marquee in the garden of the care home between 9am and 3pm on Saturday, that organisers are hopeful of arranging a similar event in the future.

Brooke House manager Laura Crowley said the fair, which was inspired by the chocolate heritage of the village, was “absolutely splendid”. She said: “It was amazing. We wanted to do something to celebrate the heritage while showcasing the local craftsmen and women. Also, it was for the staff and the people who live in the care home to enjoy while showcasing our facilities as well.”   With entertainment from The Gershwin Gang jazz duo and a local singer, there was also free face painting, balloon modelling, magic for children and the chance to mingle with Star Wars characters. Brooke House, now run as a care home by Kingsley Healthcare, was built for a member of the Mackintosh chocolate family and, eight decades on, three craft chocolate makers have their roots in the village with all represented at the fair.
