Eversley Lodge Nursing Home, Great Yarmouth’s luxury new care facility due to open in the autumn, was the main sponsor of the town’s prestigious chess congress at the weekend.

The annual event, held at Great Yarmouth Racecourse, attracted around 100 players from across the UK, including International Master Alan Merry, of Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk.

In a shock result, Mr Merry lost in the final round to Ipswich’s David Spence who won the Great Yarmouth Open title in a tie for first place with Harry Zheng, of London.
The Major tournament ended in a tie for first place between Steve Moore, of the Norwich Dons Club and Parin Suchak from Leicester.

The Minor tournament ended in a tie for first place between Clive Le Bague, from Margate, in Kent, Michael Sturman, from Bradwell, Norfolk and Graham Lawrence, of Watton, Norfolk.

Tournament controller John Wickham said: “I would like to thank Kingsley Healthcare, who are building Eversley Lodge, for sponsoring an event that brings hundreds of people to the town, giving a valuable boost to the early season tourism economy.”

Kingsley Marketing Director Stephen Pullinger said: “We are proud to have sponsored this prestigious event.

“It has given us the opportunity to tell people about the great care facility we are building for the local community. We also wanted to promote Kingsley Home Care, the exciting new kid on the block in domiciliary care, now available in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston.”
