Kirkley Manor is proud to be GOOD

kirkley manor newcqc 2018

The inspectors who visited the Kingsley Healthcare run home in August found the service to be good overall and good in every category, judging it to be caring, safe, effective, responsive and well-led. Home manager Gary Foley said: “We are pleased to have maintained our good rating and welcome the inspectors’ wholly positive comments in their report.

We care about everyone involved with the home and are continuously looking to improve. Our team share our vision and make a fantastic difference to people’s lives. I would also like to thank everyone for their great feedback about the home.” The report highlights the home’s caring atmosphere with one resident telling inspectors: “I get on well with the staff. We have a good laugh. They know me very well and have been very kind to me.”

Family members praised the way they were involved in making decisions about their loved ones’ care, one expressing relief that their relative had moved into Kirkley Manor. Residents said they felt reassured that staff were well trained and one commented: “The nurses and carers are marvellous.”

The inspectors praised the home’s person centred care and observed how care records were individualised to include detail about residents’ likes, dislikes, hobbies and interests. Residents said they had the opportunity to take part in a good range of activities, one commenting: “The activities coordinator is very good.” Another said: “I had a birthday party and two staff took me to bingo. It was so lovely, I really enjoyed it.” The report observes that a singer was there on the day of inspection and this was a “popular event which people appeared to enjoy”. The report details how people feel safe living at Kirkley, one resident saying: “I’ve had a very troubled past and I feel very safe here now.”

Inspectors noted that there were always sufficient staff on duty, the service continued to practise safe recruitment procedures, medicines were managed and administered safely and appropriate procedures were in place to ensure the cleanliness of the home.

The report highlights Kirkley’s strong leadership and includes a variety of comments from residents praising the manager, one saying: “He speaks to everyone and has a good memory for any issues raised or family stuff.”
