Brooke House care home found a sweet way to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support

The manager of Brooke House care home found a sweet way to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support – and celebrate the interesting history of the country property. The Kingsley Healthcare home, in Brooke Gardens, Brooke, was built by Eric Mackintosh, son of John Mackintosh, founder of the famous Norfolk chocolate firm, and, to mark the connection, manager Laura Crawley arranged a giant chocolate cake for the home’s participation in the charity’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

She said: “Our head cook Sue Ramsay, who has been with Kingsley Healthcare since 2003, rose to the challenge splendidly!” Laura took charge of the decoration herself – and made sure there were plenty of Mackintosh’s trademark Rolo sweets on it.

From the start of the coffee morning at 10am, there was a steady flow of villagers through the door and by noon there had been more than 50 visitors. “It was lovely chatting to the locals. One elderly gentleman I met for the first time said he used to live near our home,” said Laura.
