Knutsford Gallery opened at Sharston House

Knutsford Deputy Mayor Stewart Gardiner has opened a photographic exhibition at Sharston House nursing home that transports residents and visitors to a bygone era. Nishi Gottlieb, manager of the home in Manor Park South, Knutsford, had the idea for a “then” and “now” display of images of the town and put it in the hands of activities coordinators Stacey Hinton and Chris Hughes to turn it into a reality.

Ms Hinton said: “By working with Knutsford Heritage Centre’s Mary Gracie and Sandra Curties of Knutsford Town Council we were able to access archive photos. “It was tough whittling down all the possibilities to 10 photos to copy; when we had chosen them we walked through the town taking pictures of the same places, showing what they looked like now. “With all the pictures enlarged and printed at head office, we framed them and they were featured along a corridor wall with an apt street sign for the Knutsford Gallery. She said the walkway had been transformed into a hive of activity, with many relatives stopping, looking and sharing stories - and of course the residents had loved it.

As part of the home’s monthly coffee morning on Thursday, August 29, the Knutsford Gallery was opened by the deputy mayor. He mingled with residents and everyone enjoyed chatting to him. Val Bryant, Mary Gracie, Jan McCappin and Myra Cule attended from the Knutsford Heritage Centre. Everyone enjoyed canapés, bucks fizz, teas and coffee and said what a memorable morning it was.
