Staff at Redwalls Nursing Home, in Weaverham Road, Sandiway, are proud of their Good Care Quality Commission (CQC) report. The inspectors who visited the Kingsley Healthcare run home in the summer found the service to be good overall and good in four out of five categories, judging it to be safe, effective, caring and responsive.
Redwalls manager Sarah Lyon said: “It’s been a real team effort to return our home to a good rating and I am proud of all my staff for working so hard. “It reflects what the community thinks about us. We are proud to be highly regarded as a friendly home offering really good person centred care.” Inspectors said people were treated with kindness, dignity and respect and residents were complimentary about staff, one saying: “Staff always give me a hug, know me and care for me.” They observed that staff knew residents well and it was evident from their interactions with them that positive relationships had been formed. The report states that people are protected from poor nutrition and hydration and that residents spoke positively about the food provided, one saying: “The food is generally good and you always get a choice.”
Inspectors said staff had the knowledge, skills and experience to meet people’s needs effectively and they were satisfied by the provision of training. They found that care planning records were clear and demonstrated what actions were needed to support people in their day-to-day life.
Staff were person-centred in their approach when speaking to and about the people they supported; family members were kept regularly updated and involved in their relative’s care. Residents reported that they felt safe living at Redwalls, one saying: “There is always someone here for me, it is like a five star hotel.”
