The Mayor of Knutsford, Neil Forbes, opened a Victorian fair and street party at the town’s Sharston House nursing home. Staff dressed up in period costume for the event on Friday which celebrated National Care Home Open Day. Among the most popular attractions for visitors was a display revealing the colourful history of one of Knutsford’s most prominent homes – it was put together after a successful appeal for information for historical information in the Knutsford Guardian. Kitchen staff at the home in Manor Park had been busy ahead of the free event baking everything from Victorian sponges and teacakes to cupcakes and sausage rolls.

Home manager David Costa said: “We decided to hold a street fair and party on National Care Home Open Day because we really wanted people from the town to come in and see our extensive refurbishment work, restoring the house to its former glory. “We had an encouraging number of visitors, including neighbours, friends and relatives, other Kingsley care home employees and NHS community therapists.”
