Timperley Nursing Home pays tribute to resident's amazing community work

timp brenda4

On International Women’s Day, Timperley Care Home had the privilege of honouring one of its esteemed residents, Brenda Grixti. Her remarkable journey from managing Benchill Community Centre in Wythenshawe, Manchester, to becoming a beacon of community service, continues to inspire all who hear her story.

Brenda’s impact at the Benchill Community Centre transcended mere management duties. She tirelessly supported countless families, embodying the true spirit of community engagement. Her dedication was recognised with numerous accolades, including the Women in Housing Award in 2015, and her appointment as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2009, bestowed by the then Prince Charles for her outstanding voluntary work.

Brenda, her friends, and fellow residents were invited to attend an International Women’s Day celebration at Sale Town Hall, organized by Mike Kane MP, among others. The event was a heart-warming tribute to Brenda’s contributions, with inspiring speeches from influential women such as Sara Todd, Trafford Chief Executive, and Vicky Wood, a regional IT manager from Amazon. However, the highlight of the evening was the speech of Sarah Woolly, current centre manager and a former colleague Branda, highlighting her impactful work.

Sarah reminisced about their time working together and emphasised Brenda’s unwavering dedication to the community.

The celebration was not only a tribute to Brenda but also a reminder of the strength and resilience of all the women present. Amidst lively conversations and delicious cakes, the atmosphere was one of camaraderie and empowerment, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
